Temptation of Eve

Although I’ve titled this the temptation of Eve, at the time of her temptation she hadn’t been named Eve yet.

I love the Bible. It is filled with the story of the gospel, heroic men and women, and enough adventure to satisfy any appetite. I have read and studied the Bible for 48 years and I think I know a thing or two about it.

There are some passages in the Bible that I have heard pastors try to wiggle around. Sometimes to avoid offending anyone. One such passage is Genesis 3, verses 1 – 6, which covers the temptation of Eve.

Usually when people read verse 6, they insist that Adam was there at the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil with Woman. I will get to that in a moment, but we will first deal with verses 1 and 2.

Please understand this, I am not anti-women. And I don’t blame women for our sin condition; that wholly rests on Adam as I will explain.

But on the other side of this break, I want to clarify what I believe happened when Serpent tempted Woman.

Now back to the article.

In Genesis 3:1-2 Serpent, who was a created creature but became possessed by Lucifer, challenged Eve by asking, “Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”

Let’s give Eve her due. I think Eve loved God and immediately sought to defend His honor. She quickly realized that for some reason Serpent was attacking the goodness of God.

So, she responded with, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.”

Her statement was incorrect. God never said, “neither shall ye touch it.” If you doubt that check out Genesis 2:17 which happened before Eve’s creation, and Genesis 3:11 which occurred after Adam sinned.

Now I have heard pastors explain this as Eve must have been told by Adam that God said, “neither shall ye touch it.” But there is no scripture in the Bible that says such a thing. More importantly, God doesn’t rebuke Adam for such a misquote.

Eve said what popped into her mind probably to emphasize God’s command. It certainly wasn’t intentional. That being the case, why make an issue of it and shift the blame to Adam?

‘But that is a minor issue compared to Genesis 3:6: And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto here husband with her; and he did eat.’

Notice the part I highlighted. The common interpretation is that Adam was with her when she ate the fruit. If that argument is correct, then I contend that Adam was a terrible husband and was at least partly responsible for Eve eating the fruit.

You see, according to the Bible, Adam was not deceived (1 Timothy 2:14). So, here is my problem with that interpretation of Genesis 3:6.

That would mean that Adam was with her from verse 1 when Serpent cast doubt about God but didn’t offer any response. Instead, it was Eve who responded.

But when she misquoted God, Adam didn’t correct her. Now if he had told her God had said that then no correction would have been forthcoming. But it gets more interesting.

In verses 4 and 5 Serpent (actually Lucifer speaking through him) attacked God’s honesty and virtue. Yet, if Adam was there, he remained silent!

And then in verse 6, he didn’t warn Eve. Remember, he wasn’t deceived. So, he should have warned her and told Serpent to take a hike! But he didn’t!

If Adam was with her at the tree, then he was a terrible husband. One man, no matter his faith, would allow the woman they loved to stand alone against these lies and temptations. His silence would have been all the justification Eve needed.

But when God asked Eve for her reasoning in verse 13, she did not point a finger at Adam, only at Serpent. Despite the fact that Adam had just pointed a finger at her.

In the Old Testament there are many occasions when a single verse refers to multiple events or time periods. I believe that verse 6 can be broken into at least two parts. Part one relating to Eve’s sin, and part two meaning that Adam was with her in the garden not with her at the tree. When you look at the chapter in context then that understanding makes perfect sense.

Why do I make such an issue of it here? Because pastors make an issue of it in their sermons. As if to exonerate the woman. But I have heard it taught that if Adam had not eaten of the fruit, woman (Eve) would have died, and God would have replaced her. I don’t know if that is correct but given God’s command and the circumstances that took place, it sounds reasonable.

In addition, our sin nature stems from Adam not from Adam and Eve. She shared in the action and the consequences of that action. But it is, “…by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” (Romans 5:12)

Eve doesn’t need to be exonerated. Adam was not deceived but chose to sin, perhaps because he loved Eve. But, if so, he put Eve above God in his heart. There is no excuse, and Adam’s only attempt at one was to point a finger at Eve, and ultimately at God.

When he ate of the fruit, the consequences of that sin fell upon both him and Eve, and all mankind. The great truth here is that God in His mercy provided a Redeemer Who took our place on the cross and provided forgiveness of sin and eternal life.

Fishing Week My Biggest Catch

Since the first week of June is Fishing Week I thought I would share with you the story of my biggest catch.

As a child I lived in West Branch, Michigan which is pretty much in the center of the Lower Peninsula. It is also about 22 miles southwest of Sage Lake where this story took place. Back then my parents had friends who had a cabin on Sage Lake and we would occasionally visit them. This was one such visit.

I don’t know if the boat was owned by the friends or just a rental but one day we rowed out into the deeper water and began fishing. In all transparency I was never much of a fisherman. Somehow the fish seemed to know I was on the other end of the line and they boycotted me. There simply isn’t any other explanation.

As I recall there were four of us in the boat which included my father, my mother, my sister, and myself. I am not sure about the pole I used although I am thinking it may have been the trusty old bamboo rod.

One of the things I don’t like about fishing is the waiting. You cast your line out and simply wait for a fish to come along and decide to check out the amazing lure. In any case, it did seem like a long time before I had even a single bite.

I would cast my line out let it sink below the surface, wait a while and then being recast. This involved flicking the line up and over my back and then casting it again. Even this was becoming tiring.

But then it happened!

I flicked the hook behind me and cast again just as I had been doing. But this time I caught something. And it was big! I got excited as did my mom who was sitting right beside me. It was probably the proudest moment of my life.

“Ron!”

That was mom hollering at me. You could tell she was just as excited as I was, perhaps more so. Because, you see, that biggest catch ever was her!

Truth on Trump

09 28 2020

Welcome to News which is published every Monday and Friday.

Today’s news regards President Trump’s accomplishments and the facts regarding him, his administration, Covid-19, the economy, and more. If you didn’t watch the video please do so, it gives an overall view.

Soon the first debate will take place. I have no qualms about Trump vs. Biden but hiding in the reeds are network ‘bobbleheads’ and so-called factcheckers that will attempt to discredit anything the President says. Not that Trump will be clobbered, after all he did survive 2016 and won the presidency.

But the NeverTrumpers are not above using lies and distortions to discredit the President. That means that all of us have to be alert to the truth, which is one of the reasons I wrote Trump an Outsider’s View. Although conservative and a Trump supporter I have done my best to present the facts and let the reader decide what is truth and what is not.

There is an argument out there that this is not the most important election. I’ve read it and don’t buy into their argument. This election is critical because most of the gains that President Trump has achieved for our country are by decree. The next President can override them.

What Does That Mean?

It means that the next president can issue his own decrees which would supersede whatever President Trump has done. That covers a lot of ground including our economy, the wall, immigration, and more.

Are there other reasons it is critical?

Yes. The swamp still needs drained. The House Democrats in particular have shown that they are not fit for office. Good people elected them to do their job which is to legislate. Instead they have used government time, energy, and money to undermine and try to destroy a duly elected President. The American people see through all their actions and need to sweep them out of office!

In addition, while President Trump has accomplished much, he still has more to do. One thing is to rebuild the economy from the shutdown. He is already doing that, but he needs more time. Further, he also has more to accomplish both domestically and internationally.

The First Debate is About Taxes. What about them?

I expect to hear the same old Democratic arguments that are always made against Republicans without supporting facts. That is that the tax breaks are just for the rich. Tell that to the mom and pop businesses that were thriving in the Trump economy prior to Covid-19 and are beginning to get going again.

But this is a good time to take a critical look at the plan that Biden/Harris have put out there. We don’t have enough rich people to pay for that! Soak the rich historically hurts the middleclass and the lower-class workers. Why? Because just as profits trickle down the food chain so do taxes. Or the rich close up shop and leave the country which leaves us with fewer high paying jobs. It is a disaster waiting to happen.

Wouldn’t the Government Step In?

Of course, they would. It is what the liberals want. But how many governments have taken over the economy and prospered? Some have experimented and seemed to prosper for a while, but it never lasts. Eventually you run out of rich people’s money.

Ron’s Tip of the Day Calling

Welcome to Ron’s Tip of the Day. Today I am looking at Calling.

A while back, I wrote that my writing career is a calling from God. As a born-again believer since May 9, 1973 I have been aware of God’s love for me, His discipline of me, and His guidance are all expressions of His love. I also know He has a plan for me.

But most of all I am humbled by the fact that I am unworthy of such love. We are all unworthy, but God loves us and sent His Son to take our place in judgment upon a cross. But while He died so that we might be saved from eternal damnation, He also desires our very best!

It was by His grace that I was enabled to write, and it was through His grace I was ‘called’ to be a writer. What special ability or trait qualified me for such a calling? None!

If you have received Jesus Christ as your Savior by asking Him to save you and enter your life, then you are born-again. And if born-again you belong to Him. If you are also a writer, then it is possible He wants to use your writing skills. Whether called to become a writer or you are already a writer, He has a plan for you!

My job, and your job, is to discover what that plan is. It may take you down roads never traveled or open vistas never seen. But submitting yourself to His will and guidance is the right place to start.

Tip of the Day : Seek God’s Will for Your Writing Career.

Ron’s Tip of the Day Renewal

Welcome to Ron’s Tip of the Day. Today I am looking at Renewal.

How have you been spending Stay-at-home?

Teresa and I have continued with her rehab, we have sought to maintain a sense of normalcy, and we have been engaged in renewal.

What Does That Mean?

As a writer I interpret Renewal to mean: An effort to review and improve on my writings. This can be as simple as writing a new book, or a more complicated review of both our writings and the marketing of our books.

Previously I have noted my return to local marketing. I believe in a balanced approach featuring local marketing and a national marketing. But the main emphasis is local. This is the place I can have the most impact.

Nationally I can purchase plans that will market our books for us, but locally I have a more hands-on approach. For example, getting our books into the local bookstore market. Instead of hoping someone will see one of our books and suddenly become a viral spokesperson, I think it makes more sense to personally and actively push our books. This means doing the hard work of finding bookstores, developing a business plan, and enacting a marketing plan.

To do this, I need to be working toward these things now (I am) so that when bookstores reopen, I’ll be ready. Our careers deserve our best efforts, our best writing, and our best marketing.

Ron’s Tip of the Day Write About Events

Welcome to Ron’s Tip of the Day. Throughout the week I will share a tip with you. This is an experiment in microblogging. Let me know how I’m doing. Today I am looking at Write About Events.

I write primarily either historical events and people or future events and people. But a case can be made for writing about current events. There are a lot of possibilities; here’s a few:

  • Coronavirus survival stories

A lot more people have survived this virus than have died. You could write factual or fictional stories about someone surviving.

  • Fastest government response ever

I’ve lived for almost 77 years. I’ve never seen such a fast response from Republican or Democratic administrations! This is fodder for stories about doctors, nurses, etc. risking their lives to stem the spread and save lives.

  • Impeachment fiasco

Although the trial is over, Democrats are still threatening impeachment. How about a novel based on the Steele Dossier? Or about a conspiracy to bring down the President? Plenty of information out there; some fact and some fiction.

  • Modern Terrorism

Seems like terrorism is taking place somewhere every day.

  • SpaceX and the future

I’ve actually included this is my new mystery novel. Not only can you write about SpaceX, but the new Space Force forming.

  • Election fraud

Since the government will probably never tell, why not write a novel about Hillary Clinton’s eMail server, Hillary’s use of classified information, Russian collusion (false or true, Trump or Clinton), or current manipulations.

Tip of the Day: There’s a lot happening in today’s world. Just look.

Ron’s Tuesday’s : Tip Using Video

Welcome to Ron’s Tuesday’s Tip. Every Tuesday I will share a tip with you. This week I am looking at Using Video.

I am new at using videos to promote the business. While I’ve developed videos over the past several years, I have little experience using them. So this is not a How To. I’m still learning.

Today I am discussing with you what I am thinking and doing with videos in regard to my writing career and TR Writing Services.

Writing Career

Over the years I’ve looked at YouTube and FaceBook video ads. These are powerful tools and I’m still looking at them. Also I am now taking a closer look at them and one other venue.

This other venue is our website at TR-writingservices.com. Under our Services tab I have just today (March 10, 2020) put out a series of videos entitled It’s Your Business. You’ll find more information below.

My wife and I have discussed me interviewing her about her debut novel Haney Place Secrets. I’m also considering doing other videos about my books. It is all tentative, but I’m a little excited.

TR Writing Services

It’s Your Business is now available on FaceBook and our website TR-WritingServices.com. Located in Videos on Facebook and  under Services on the website. I’ve also uploaded to YouTube, but that needs work.

What’s Next?

I already mentioned our plans. I will be moving slowly to avoid major mistakes. Plus I plan to emphasize Local Marketing as much as is possible.

What are you doing?

Ron’s Tip of the Day When the Unexpected Happens

Welcome to Ron’s Tip of the Day. Throughout the week I will share a tip with you. This is an experiment in microblogging. Let me know how I’m doing. Today I am looking at When the Unexpected Happens.

Today started somewhat typical. It began by getting cleaned and dressed, followed by breakfast and devotions. Then my wife wanted to go shopping.

That was the first bump, but when you’ve been married a while (39 years in September) you expect the unexpected. So I adjusted on the fly and we went shopping.

After returning home, I gathered my computer and business papers and headed for the library where I usually spend 2 – 4 hours daily (M – F). We don’t have cable (chose to go without), so I use the Library’s Wi-Fi, but today the Wi-Fi is down.

Bummer!

So, I did what any author businessman would do, I gathered my computer and business papers and went to McDonald’s. That is where I am as I write this blog.

Tip of the Day

Don’t let the unexpected upset your day. If you look hard enough you can find a solution. This was a minor bump in the road, sometimes you get major bumps. But be proactive and keep moving on.
