Riddle News: Pants on Fire

Featured

10 19 2020

Welcome to Riddle News which is published every Monday and Friday.

We took a bad economy and turned it around. Donald Trump took a good economy and drove it into the ditch.” Joe Biden.

Fact Check time.

Is what Biden said true?

“We took a bad economy”

The Obama/Biden Administration inherited a very bad economy. And it got so bad that President Obama and Vice President Biden desperately tried everything they could think of to right the ship. It devastated people around the country.

But VP Biden was able to initiate a plan that began digging us out.

“We took a bad economy” is a True statement.

“and turned it around.”

It is true that jobs began rising again and the unemployment figures dropped. And this led to the economic experts claiming the recession was over in 2009. But to Mr. and Mrs. America it wasn’t. Numbers lie. In this case the experts looked at the job numbers and claimed victory. Unfortunately, those jobs were primarily low paying jobs, such as you might get at McDonalds, Wendy’s, Five Guys, Little Caesars, Pizza Hut, and the like. For the worker laid off from a six-figure or higher job, those jobs barely sufficed.

Part of the lower unemployment rate was that people were no longer part of the work force and weren’t claiming unemployment for a variety of reasons.

The truth is that in 2016 there were still jobless people. President Obama said that many of the jobs (such as manufacturing and technical) weren’t coming back. Basically, get over it and find another job.

“And turned it around” is Mostly False.

“Donald Trump took a good economy”

Right up to Election Day the morose continued. It was hardly a good economy, but it was better than in 2008 and it was acceptable to Obama/Biden. But it was not good.

During their eight years not only did our economy improve only marginally, but we were being taken to the cleaners by our foreign allies. Part of Donald Trump’s appeal to voters was his promise to lower taxes, to get rid of many of the restrictions that mom & pop businesses and small business in general were facing.

“Donald Trump took a good economy” is a False statement.

“and drove it into the ditch.”

In less than 3 ½ years President Trump rejuvenated the economy. Historic lows in Black, Hispanic, and just plain every ethic out there in unemployment. Businesses were hiring and began laying out their plans I believe right after Trump’s election. Why? Because they believed him and trusted him. He honored that trust by not only carrying out his promises but hiring people who believed as he did. Not all worked out, but he tried to get the right people in the right job.

Moreover, he kept his promises! The only thing that temporarily derailed his promises was a Democratic run House of Representatives and the Covid-19. But even those two forces didn’t stop him.

Our country is already turning the corner. Unemployment that had been in double figures is back in single digits. The number of people out of the work force is going down, hiring is up, people are going back to work and beginning to get their feet on the ground again.

In the ditch? No, we are now poised to leap forward!

“and drove it into the ditch” is a False statement.

In my opinion, there is no reason to believe that Biden/Harris would preside over a booming economy. They want to take us back to the days that Biden is so proud of. Fracking, a backbone of our economy, would be a thing of the past. Unemployment will sour and what jobs remain will be low paying because businesses will leave America again and may never come back.

I didn’t get into Trump’s likeability, because that is not what brought this country back and, frankly, is not what we need. We need a man who stands up to the world and insists that we will play on an even field. A man who will stand up to Putin, unlike Obama, and to China, unlike Biden. We need a man who not only makes promises but keeps them! And Donald Trump’s record backs him up.

I promise to talk about Covid-19.

If you watch TV and read the paper, you are aware of a resurgence in Covid-19 cases both abroad and here in the United States. They are calling it the second wave.

However, you need to take a closer look. It is not so much of a second wave as it is a continuation of the first wave. It is now hitting rural America. If you insist on calling it a second wave, I won’t argue with you. But to include it into the worldwide resurgence is simply not ethical.

I wrote a book, Trump an Outsider’s View, that covers Covid-19 and the Death Rate rather thoroughly. I still track the Death Rate and it is now down to 2.7%! And it is still going down. Dr. Fauci and others agree that the Trump Administration saved thousands of lives by restricting China travel in January, a fact embarrasses Biden who opposed the restrictions.

Ron’s Lit Tip Observations

Featured

09 30 2020

Welcome to Ron’s Lit Tip. Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday I will share a tip with you.

Last night I watched the debate between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden. I decided to report on that instead of my normal lit tip.

The debate was a disaster in many ways, but I did draw a few things from it.

  1. Classic Trump

The President is combative. That is not a news flash, we all know it. And last night he was very combative. He won’t and wasn’t silent when he felt Biden was lying. He interrupted Biden frequently and dominated the debate.

  • Joe Biden

Joe had memorized certain words and phrases prior to the debate. This showed up several times. He used the following, “he doesn’t know what he’s talking about,” “he’s a liar,” “a clown,” plus the laugh. All of these were put out there hoping that one of them was a virile sound bite. The laugh was designed for video.

But for all intents and purposes these failed. What I remember the most from the debate was that Biden was ineffective, at times he fumbled his words, his lips quivered, and some people noticed stressed facial expressions, all of which indicated that Joe Biden was having cognitive troubles.

But of more concern to me was he couldn’t handle the attacks from President Trump. He had to know that the attacks were coming, and his only response was to mumble words and phrases he had memorized. In one instance, he seemed to need the moderator, Chris Wallace, to help him.

It occurred to me that if Joe Biden couldn’t handle a debate where he knew attacks were coming, how could he expect to handle the pressure of the Presidency?

  • Chris Wallace

Wallace is Center Left, a liberal who doesn’t like Trump. So, it wasn’t surprising that his overall performance favored Biden. Although both candidates ignored the agreed upon rules and interrupted one another, Wallace appeared to give Biden more leeway.

  • Fact Checkers

I have little confidence in factcheckers, so I didn’t watch them. This morning I looked at a couple to see what they were saying. Basically, they were predictable.

  • Overall

I remember a time when debates revealed information that proved important to the election. Last night’s debate revealed little. There are a few items though.

Court Packing – There has been talk that if the Senate confirms Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court and if Biden wins, he will try to pack the court. In other words, increase the number of judges. This only requires a Congressional act signed into law by the President. Biden refused to answer the question by Wallace if he supported packing the court.

Economy – Simply put, President Trump favors opening up businesses, schools, etc., while Biden supports shutting everything down. I find Biden’s leanings amusing to a degree. He continually referred to Trump’s shutdown as a “recession.”

Jobs –Biden and Wallace both cited the number of jobs Obama created as opposed to the number of jobs Trump has created. The problem with that is that the Obama jobs were low paying (think McDonalds) while the jobs under Trump have been increased factory jobs, higher paying white collar jobs, and the return of many white collar employees to or near the pay levels of prior to 2008.

Who won? That’s easy. Trump 1, Biden 0.

Truth on Trump

Featured

09 28 2020

Welcome to News which is published every Monday and Friday.

Today’s news regards President Trump’s accomplishments and the facts regarding him, his administration, Covid-19, the economy, and more. If you didn’t watch the video please do so, it gives an overall view.

Soon the first debate will take place. I have no qualms about Trump vs. Biden but hiding in the reeds are network ‘bobbleheads’ and so-called factcheckers that will attempt to discredit anything the President says. Not that Trump will be clobbered, after all he did survive 2016 and won the presidency.

But the NeverTrumpers are not above using lies and distortions to discredit the President. That means that all of us have to be alert to the truth, which is one of the reasons I wrote Trump an Outsider’s View. Although conservative and a Trump supporter I have done my best to present the facts and let the reader decide what is truth and what is not.

There is an argument out there that this is not the most important election. I’ve read it and don’t buy into their argument. This election is critical because most of the gains that President Trump has achieved for our country are by decree. The next President can override them.

What Does That Mean?

It means that the next president can issue his own decrees which would supersede whatever President Trump has done. That covers a lot of ground including our economy, the wall, immigration, and more.

Are there other reasons it is critical?

Yes. The swamp still needs drained. The House Democrats in particular have shown that they are not fit for office. Good people elected them to do their job which is to legislate. Instead they have used government time, energy, and money to undermine and try to destroy a duly elected President. The American people see through all their actions and need to sweep them out of office!

In addition, while President Trump has accomplished much, he still has more to do. One thing is to rebuild the economy from the shutdown. He is already doing that, but he needs more time. Further, he also has more to accomplish both domestically and internationally.

The First Debate is About Taxes. What about them?

I expect to hear the same old Democratic arguments that are always made against Republicans without supporting facts. That is that the tax breaks are just for the rich. Tell that to the mom and pop businesses that were thriving in the Trump economy prior to Covid-19 and are beginning to get going again.

But this is a good time to take a critical look at the plan that Biden/Harris have put out there. We don’t have enough rich people to pay for that! Soak the rich historically hurts the middleclass and the lower-class workers. Why? Because just as profits trickle down the food chain so do taxes. Or the rich close up shop and leave the country which leaves us with fewer high paying jobs. It is a disaster waiting to happen.

Wouldn’t the Government Step In?

Of course, they would. It is what the liberals want. But how many governments have taken over the economy and prospered? Some have experimented and seemed to prosper for a while, but it never lasts. Eventually you run out of rich people’s money.

News Covid-19

Featured

09 18 2020

Welcome to News which is published every Monday and Friday.

Although my book Trump an Outsider’s View is already available for purchase or Pre-Order (today is last day), I continue to follow the stats. If you read the paper, you might get the picture that things are still bad and getting worse.

Not So!

But there are still new cases.

True, but the number of true cases is going down. That’s a good thing not a bad thing. But the true story lies in the death rate.

Death Rate?

Yes. I published my newest book Trump an Outsider’s View on September 11. The eBook is currently in Pre-Order and will be released tomorrow. In both versions I had the following stats:

Total cases: 6,438,739

Total deaths: 192,834

Death Rate: 2.99%

Compare those numbers to today’s (September 18, 2020):

Total cases: 6,670,496

Total deaths: 197,447

Death Rate: 2.96%

How do you determine Death Rate?

You divide the total deaths by the total cases. This gives you a running average. When viewed over a long period of time (say January to September 18) it mitigates the delay factor people talk about.

A Closer Look

When you run the numbers, you find that during that seven-day period new cases went up by a total of 231,757 and new deaths went up by 4,613. Convert that to daily, and you get an average of 33,108 new cases and 659 new deaths.

That is considerably below the numbers for the height of the pandemic.

What does that mean?

It means the pandemic is slowing down. Now that the cases are also on a downtrend, the Death Rate is no longer plunging as it was from June 1 through September 11, but it still is moving downward.

But the News Media has changed its focus.

Now the focus is on the economic damage done by the virus. But as with the death rate the media is behind on the economy. Although they state that Americans applying for jobless benefits fell last week to 860,000, the emphasis is on the historic highs that number represents.

Again, they report that jobless claims fell by 33,000 but the article emphasizes the high numbers in relation to last year. In other words, they can say they reported positive news which is true. But they wrapped it in negative news. The truth is that the economy is slowly (that is, slower than we want) ramping up.

Employment is rising and unemployment is sinking. And that is far more important news than the fact we have hit record breaking levels. Yes, we did but that primarily took place in months past. We are now seeing the American economy on an upward climb. It is slower than we want but there is no reason to believe it won’t speed up.

Speaking for myself, I expect the economy to be stronger by election day than it has been for a while now. I also expect the new cases and new deaths to be lower perhaps in the 1% Death Rate. That doesn’t change the tragedy of even one death, nor does it excuse the Democrats for first denying the Pandemic (and accusing Trump of racism) in the beginning nor their use of the pandemic to further political aims.

We will still see Democratic opportunism and negativism, but I am glad we have a President who is optimistic about America and its future.

The clouds of the pandemic are dispersing, and the sunlight is shining through. It is time to smile again!

Today’s Issue: FEMA

Welcome to Monday News & Comments.

Earlier on August 8th President Trump signed an order authorizing FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), which was founded in 1979, to payout $300 per week to qualified unemployed workers. This is a result of the Democratic held House’s refusal to pass legislation that would have helped millions of unemployed voters. In following through on President Trump’s order FEMA has issued a press release. Here is an excerpt:

WASHINGTON — FEMA Administrator Pete Gaynor approved Florida for a FEMA grant under the Lost Wages Assistance program. FEMA’s grant funding will allow Florida to provide $300 per week — on top of their regular unemployment benefit — to those unemployed due to COVID-19. FEMA will work with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to implement a system to make this funding available to Florida residents.

This is good news for the unemployed here in America. Speaking as a man who was laid off through no fault of his own when I was much younger man, I know what it is like to be unemployed. Yes, you get unemployment benefits, but they don’t really replace what you were making. So, $300 more per week means a lot to someone trying to survive.

When I went on unemployment, I had $2000 in my bank account. I thought I was in fine shape and figured it would only be for a short time, but by the time I got another job it was all gone. I was a single man back then but consider how devastating losing your income is for families.

It is interesting to note that Nancy Pelosi and the press emphasize this as only temporary relief and therefore not worthy to consider. Again, speaking as one who was unemployed for a time temporary relief is far better than no relief at all. In my case I was able to find a new job within the time frame I was unemployed. But my bank account was wiped out by that time.

Many people who are unemployed want to work, even eager to work, and this extra money will buy them some time to find work. I’m not talking about fast food jobs such as President Obama offered, but real jobs. The Liberals in and out of government want permanent relief which robs a person of self-esteem. Inevitably such programs fail because the individual involved literally loses the desire to work and stagnates. And the impact of this takes people out of the workforce.

I know this increase in unemployment benefits will add to our deficit, but sometimes it is necessary. Once this pandemic is over, the economy will take off and repayment of the deficit will begin. In fact, it is already apparent that the economy is coming alive once again. Unemployment has begun declining and jobs are rising, slowly but ongoing.

Today’s Issue: Trump vs. Harris

Welcome to Friday News.

Today I want to share some facts brought up by Newt Gingrich. Consider:

  1. The Biden-Harris commitment to renew the Obama effort to destroy suburban neighborhoods is a direct threat to the peace of mind for two-thirds of the American people – including a large number of African American and Latino suburbanites.
  2. The Biden-Harris commitment to use taxpayer money to pay for abortions through the ninth month of pregnancy is opposed even by many pro-choice Americans (and is a break with Biden’s entire career of supporting the Hyde Amendment, which bars taxpayer money from paying for abortions).
  3. The commitment in HR 6800, which 207 House Democrats supported and Biden endorsed, to pay $1,200 bonuses to every person in the country illegally is deeply unpopular.
  4. Biden’s commitment to Beto O’Rourke that he could pursue gun control (recall, O’Rourke wants compulsory confiscation going door-to-door) will alienate virtually all Second Amendment supporters.
  5. The Democratic mayors and district attorneys (many elected with George Soros’ money) represent a pro-criminal future which is exploding into violence. As Democrats continue to publicly praise soft on crime prosecutors and cry “defund the police,” the choice in November will become pro-police vs. pro-criminal, and there is a huge majority against violence.
  6. The teachers’ unions own the Democratic Party, and their blackmail approach to reopening schools is isolating them from Americans. Remember: Gov. Ron DeSantis earned 18 percent of Black female votes against a Black Democratic opponent on the issue of school choice.

Emphasis is mine.

Newt could have continued but this list is condemning enough. When you consider that Kamala Harris, widely expected to become President in 1st term, is not a Centrist as the media claims but far right (rejected by Democratic voters in the primary), you can see the danger.

I’ve never seen a worse ticket! I’ve seen tickets I didn’t like, but never one this radical and incompetent. There was a time when Joe Biden was sharp, but that has passed. He’s 77 years old, a few months younger than me, and I couldn’t handle the Presidency. That leaves the election being Trump vs. Harris!

Trump is the only reasonable choice. Or to put it another way, Order (Trump) over Chaos (Harris). And let’s not forget that Trump brought back prosperity for all; he can do it again!

Today’s Issue: Kamala Harris

Welcome to Monday News & Comments.

Where does Harris stand on the Issues?

Abortion

  • Pro-Choice
  • Supports preventing states from enacting laws without first clearing with Justice Department
  • Supports repeal of Hyde Amendment

(Pro-Choice, a feel good name for Pro Abortion, is now accepting abortion right up until birth.)

Climate Change

  • Supports giving grants to coastal communities to prepare for sea-level rise
  • Supports the Green New Deal

(The Green New Deal is a prescription for disaster. Major industries, including mom/pop businesses would be negatively impacted. It could reduce America to a 3rd world country.)

Criminal Justice Reform

  • Opposes death penalty (formerly supported it)
  • Supported pardoning people convicted of drug-related crimes
  • Supports expanding (packing) the Supreme Court

(The death penalty is 100% effective against repeat offenses; pardoning drug-related crimes would flood streets with criminals; packing Supreme Court would undermine government.)

Economy

  • Supports ‘Equal Pay Certification’ to prove companies not giving preferential treatment regarding pay, promotions, & more

Education

  • Supports College For All Act (eliminating tuition/fees for public colleges/universities for Americans earning less than $125,000/yr.
  • Supports a limited student loan debt forgiveness program

Election Reform

  • Supports abolition of the Electoral College
  • Supports updating and reinvigorating the Voting Rights Act

(Electoral College protects small states; founders intentionally included it.)

Foreign Relations

Supports Israel

(This is what our country should always do.)

Guns

  • Supports universal background checks
  • Supports ban on assault weapons

(Attack on 2nd Amendment; most hunting rifles would be included.)

Healthcare

  • Supports “Medicare-for-All with public option”

(Would bankrupt nation.)

Housing

  • Supports Homeowners Bill of Rights
  • Supports debt reduction for homeowners
  • Supports refundable tax credit for families making less than $100,000/yr.
  • Supports $100 billion program to help Americans of color buy homes
  • Supports reforming eviction and screening processes

Immigration

  • Supports possible abolishment of ICE
  • Supports DACA

(ICE protects our borders; most claims against it are false. DACA no longer an issue.)

Marijuana

  • Supports federal legalization of marijuana
  • Supports expunging marijuana convictions from people’s records

(Medical marijuana is different from marijuana.)

Reparations

  • Supports reparations

(Opportunities for Black people to advance already exist and should be improved. Reparations are not justified or needed.)

Ron’s Tip of the Day New Normal

Welcome to Ron’s Tip of the Day. Today I am looking at New Normal.

If you have been listening to the news media and all the ‘experts’ you have heard the expression a ‘new normal’. That ‘new normal’ is not a good thing. It implies that we will forever be living with less and enjoying life less.

You hear it repeatedly, but I refuse to accept that meaning. My ‘New Normal’ is basically a return to the ‘Old Normal’. Yes, it will take time to return to a semblance of normalcy. But we all need to remember that COVID 19, while it may stay with us, will come under control. We have seen throughout our history devastating diseases that now are controlled by proper medicines, etc. (Think of leprosy that was the terror of old; it still exists but is controlled, managed, and cured. Or think of Epilepsy that once devastated lives but now is better controlled. Or Polio.)

The recession we are in right now is not a result of failing economic institutions, it’s the result of the nation being shut down. The economic policies that brought America back from the Bush/Obama years and were enacted under Trump are still here.

We have every reason to be optimistic. Don’t let the continuous drumbeat of negativism get you down. Better days are coming. Ignore that drumbeat and focus on a return to the days of a booming economy and do your part.

Tip of the Day: Make your ‘New Normal’ as good or better than the ‘Old Normal’!

Ron’s Tip of the Day Renewal

Welcome to Ron’s Tip of the Day. Today I am looking at Renewal.

How have you been spending Stay-at-home?

Teresa and I have continued with her rehab, we have sought to maintain a sense of normalcy, and we have been engaged in renewal.

What Does That Mean?

As a writer I interpret Renewal to mean: An effort to review and improve on my writings. This can be as simple as writing a new book, or a more complicated review of both our writings and the marketing of our books.

Previously I have noted my return to local marketing. I believe in a balanced approach featuring local marketing and a national marketing. But the main emphasis is local. This is the place I can have the most impact.

Nationally I can purchase plans that will market our books for us, but locally I have a more hands-on approach. For example, getting our books into the local bookstore market. Instead of hoping someone will see one of our books and suddenly become a viral spokesperson, I think it makes more sense to personally and actively push our books. This means doing the hard work of finding bookstores, developing a business plan, and enacting a marketing plan.

To do this, I need to be working toward these things now (I am) so that when bookstores reopen, I’ll be ready. Our careers deserve our best efforts, our best writing, and our best marketing.

Ron’s Tip of the Day Taking Charge

Welcome to Ron’s Tip of the Day. Today I am looking at Taking Charge.

Let’s say the nation’s business opens tomorrow. For a writer it would be exciting to see bookstores reopen, libraries reopen, and a host of book venues reopen. What would you do?

The reopening of bookstores would ignite my plan to get my wife’s first novel into a local bookstore. During this forced ‘stay home’ I’ve been working with that goal in mind. And once I get hers in, I would try to get my latest novel into the same store.

Another thing I would do would be to start visiting the local library. I may not go as much, especially since my wife is doing rehab and my presence is sometimes required. It would cause some balancing on my part, but I’m up to it.

For the most part I would return to what I was doing prior to the virus invasion. But there will be differences. They call it the new normal, but I call it normal with a twist. The new normal sounds too much like letting fear regulate your life, which I oppose. But using commonsense and making only slight alterations can be very helpful.

Tip of the Day : Let’s resume life as normal with a twist approach.
