Insights from Christland

FeaturedInsights from Christland

Monday through Friday I deal with different subjects in this blog. I also post my blog to my Facebook page at RFrederickRiddlesWorld. Tuesday’s I try to focus on Insights. This week I am taking another look at Christland.
What is Christland?
Christland is a new series within the Christian Speculative Fiction genre.
I have now published two novels in this genre: Death Ship to the Stars and Pauline A New Home. In these two books I have explored space travel and the beginnings of a new society upon an Earthlike or an ExoPlanet (Earth sized). I have particularly focused on Ross 128 b.
In a previous Insight I talked about how far we’ve come since Star Trek. Many ideas of that TV series either have or are on the verge of being reality. Examples are Warp Drive, ION engines, Replicators, and more.
What Further Insights Do I Have?
The series depicts Earth in the throes of a Science based theology of Reason, Knowledge, and Elitism. For all practical purposes religion has been destroyed and legally banned. Christianity operates under the radar and is persecuted. But the series also shows that ultimately Christianity wins – at least until the Rapture takes place.
It doesn’t take a genius to see such a future. (That’s fortunate because I’m a long ways from being a genius.) This is simply a practical outgrowth of the worldwide persecution we now see around us. Even here in America we see it has started. Only a nationwide revival can truly overturn this trend. It is true the Trump administration is increasingly acting as a friend of Christianity, but the next president may once again allow attacks against Christians to go unchecked and unpunished.
What’s So Wrong With America?
The world depicted is one that has rejected both God and God’s moral code. Today we allow immorality, such as homosexuality, to be promoted as morality. Those opposed to this abomination are ridiculed and, in some cases, persecuted. But we shouldn’t be surprised. Once the Bible was kicked out of our schools the moral code went with it. What is interesting is that people act surprised that children are growing up and killing others, be it with guns, knives, or whatever. So what is the solution that society seeks? Disarm the people. Take away their guns and that will stop the violence. No, it will give those bent on violence a free reign.
But Where is God? Why Hasn’t He Returned Like He Said?
God is still where we left Him, knocking on the doors of our hearts. He is watching and will return according to His Word not our desires. The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ will return first in the Rapture and about seven years later in His Second Coming. But then He will be coming as the Mighty God, the Judge. He will be coming in His wrath.
So Christland is about Judgment?
When writing my Christland series I show revival and a return to Christian faith. It is taken from my own Christian faith. The Bible teaches that God revives; history teaches that God has revived entire nations in the past. So it is possible it will happen again. The series itself occurs prior to the Rapture, Tribulation, and Millennium. These all come later.
When?
Good question and I don’t have the answer as for a date. But I can predict this: Revival won’t come to America until Americans turn back to God! And I am not merely talking about law, but about everything and ultimately their hearts.

Insights: Pauline A New Home

Insights: Pauline A New Home

Monday through Friday I deal with different subjects in this blog. I also post my blog to my Facebook page at RFrederickRiddlesWorld. Tuesday’s I try to focus on Insights. This week I am taking a look at Pauline A New Home.
Pauline A New Home is Book 2 of the Christland speculative fiction series. In this book the renamed ship, now Guardian One, arrives at the planet Ross 128 b. They promptly rename the Red Dwarf Star system “Ro” and they name the 5 planets after the Apostles of Christ. Ross 128 b becomes Pauline, named after Paul.
In this novel the forces that sent them as prisoners into space still oppress the world and continue their search for Christians, but on Pauline the now free Christians land on, explore, and claim the supercontinent Christland as their home. Soon they establish a new country, the United Christian States.
The Key to all this is the ability to travel in space.
In the fictional series man has mastered traveling within the Solar System and already has a community on Mars. And the newest technology is Warp Drive enabling travel through space.
As We Explore Space What Will We Find?
Fiction is often a foretaste of truth yet to be discovered. Just this past weekend the United States launched a rocket headed for our very own sun. It is built of state of the art technology enabling it to withstand extreme heat and not only get close to the sun but stay awhile.
It is called the Parker Solar Probe and it needed three huge rockets to escape Earth’s gravity. The ensuing thrust will take it to Venus in just six weeks! Then on September 28, it will begin a careful maneuver, called gravity assist, which will move it a little closer to the sun, where it will make a total of 24 orbits around the sun. On November 1, 2018 it will experience its first perihelion or close approach to the sun.
The orbit itself will not be oval, but rather petal-shaped, skimming over the sun closely before flying further out into space. At that point it will close its first orbit. During its orbits it will perform its scientific work while it is within a quarter of the distance between Earth and the sun.
The probe will also have the ability to hover, that is match the sun’s rotation speed and stay over a selected spot for a period of time, say ten days. This will provide them an in-depth base of knowledge.
So What Does It Mean?
For one thing it represents an important stride in space technology and ability. This will be a first. We will feel repercussions for years to come. Eventually it will lead, in my opinion, to technology that will enable humans to travel in space and even settle on planets less hospitable than Earth.
Unless God intervenes and stops us humanity will spread to the stars. Since the Rapture can happen at any time it is possible that God will stop our current search (He stopped the Tower of Babel), but it is also possible that He will allow the exploration to continue.
In the meantime, this is an exciting time from a scientific point of view. For the evolutionists it will be exciting yet disappointing (they’ll find no intelligent life), but for the rest of us it will be exciting just as exploring the Old West was exciting. It will represent new challenges plus new opportunities for faith and for enterprise.
Hold onto your hats, folks, the ride may be a bit bumpy!

Insights: Death Ship to the Stars

Insights: Death Ship to the Stars

Insights: Death Ship to the Stars
“Why do the heathen rage, and people imagine a vain thing? The kings of earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed.” Psalm 2:1-2
In Death Ship to the Stars we see scientific knowledge advancing that we in the 21st century are just beginning to see. When doing research for this novel I started out with a look at Star Wars. But I quickly discovered that mankind is already advancing to the point that some Star War imaginings are actually coming true.
WHAT ARE THEY?
The scientific community is already exploring possible avenues for Warp Drives. Once considered a pipe dream there are now serious studies aimed at that very thing. In fact, for the purposes of the novel I had more than one method to choose from. I ended up using the ION Rings. In this situation there are two rings that provide a method to move through space at speeds measured in Speed of Light.
Another Star Wars fantasy was replicators. When I looked them up I discovered that various types of replicators already exist, albeit on a smaller and less grandiose scale.
BUT ONE THING NEVER CHANGES!
That one thing is human nature. No matter what science tries they are never able to change human nature. They learn how to manipulate it, but not change it. The greatest example of this is man’s resistance to God.
You’d think that all the discoveries being made would point man to God, but it’s completely different. Man’s pride is so great that to admit there is a God that holds them responsible for their actions is simply unbelievable. This is where Psalm 2:1-2 comes in to play. The educated people of our day worship themselves and there is no room for a Holy God. They go to great lengths to deny His existence but when all is said and done their arguments collapse.
The day is coming when “he that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.”

Christian Speculative Fiction

Christian Speculative Fiction

In a previous blog Why Christian Science Fiction I concluded that there may not be such a genre. But thanks to a reader I discovered I was wrong. So, instead of writing about issues today I will take this time to update my perceptions and yours.

The reader informed me that there is Christian Speculative Fiction and he mentioned Enclave Publishing, an outfit that specializes in Christian Speculative and Science Fiction. So I checked it out and he was right. So in the future I will refer to Christian Speculative Fiction.

Now that I have found a safe harbor  let me promote it. Just like any genre or sub-genre there will be all kinds. The word Christian denotes a certain worldview, but since there are all kinds of Christians it is probably wise to consider there are all types of Christian worldviews. And my research into it verifies such wisdom.

From what I have seen my novel Death Ship and the series Christland springing from it fit nicely into this genre. One writer recently commented that Christian Speculative writing is hard. Now she may have been referring to the difficulties of getting publish which I don’t have. But she could be referencing the writing itself. And with that I agree.

In writing Death Ship I didn’t have the luxury of aliens as a potential enemy. The enemy is twofold: 1) a general charged with destroying Christianity and 2) space itself.

The Christland series involves at least three elements: 1) Earth, 2) Space, and 3) another planet. And then there is General Abner Smith who hates Christians. Powerful, egotistical, and devious, he is a real danger to Christians on Earth and in space.

In addition, there is the nature of animal life on distant planets. I believe that animals may exist on earth-like planets. Only humans are said to be unique. Animals may resemble what we have on Earth or be entirely different. Imagination can provide those animals. What I find difficult is the degree you wander from Earth bound animals. Some science fiction books I have seen and read get real creative with animals. But I think a good solid story doesn’t want to get too creative. There is a story to be told and these additional factors should enhance the story not detract from it.

But so far I have found that writing is still much the same. Christian Speculative is simply telling a story with a Christian worldview and placing it in another part of our universe. You’ll notice I’m not talking about a new world. And why should I? There are other solar systems out there just begging for writers to discover. And mankind has begun not only looking from afar but planning on visiting them. Enter speculation or science fiction.

Actually I think the hardest part of being a writer of Christian Speculative Fiction is the marketing. You go to the Library and try to find that genre. I go regularly and I haven’t found such a genre yet. Part of the problem is that Christian Speculative Fiction is considered, at least in a library, as a sub-genre of science fiction. Which is fine, but it makes it that much harder for readers to find. Avid science fiction readers may consider that statement laughable, but readers who don’t naturally read science fiction might find themselves in agreement.

Having discovered the appropriate sub-genre (whoever came up with ‘speculative’ anyway?) I am more upbeat than before. I’d much rather be in an established genre or sub-genre than to start one.

Reading other authors in your genre is always a good thing. So that is one thing I will now be doing in the Christian Speculative sub-genre. Who knows, I may even do a review. I have just downloaded a novel and have started reading it.

Global Warming

Global Warming

Monday’s I try to focus on issues. These can be spiritual, religious, political, economic, or just about anything. Today I am focusing on the weather, particularly “global warming.”

Since I’m not a scientist I won’t write from the view of science. This is actually good because the scientific community is overrun by global alarmists to such a degree, pardon the pun, that reasonable discussion is almost impossible.

This is unfortunate being as there are problems with the global warming viewpoint. Last week I read an article purporting that investing in global warming can bring great economic benefits. Now, if you’re talking individually I would agree. Al Gore with his Inconvenient Truth movie did all right for himself. The fact that the movie was flawed and that he personally doesn’t live according to “green” theology is beside the point.

The fact is that the scientific study of weather has a rather recent beginning of only a few hundred years. But historically there is a better record and it seems to indicate that the weather is cyclic. That is, there are periods of cooling (such as the Ice Age) and periods of warming. The Ice Age didn’t happen millions of years ago, but rather about 2,500 years ago right after the Flood. It is believed it lasted for only a few hundred years.

So when you talk about the Earth warming there is truth in that. But that should not bring concerns about the end of the world. If you read the Bible you know how the world will end and you have a small understanding of how it will be renewed.

According to the Bible the Earth will never have a worldwide flood again. But rather it will burn up. Because of global warming? Maybe, but doubtful. Rather God will cause the Earth to be destroyed by fire; purged if you will of the results of sin since the days of Adam. Then there will be a New Earth!

So will investing in the global warming industry reap financial benefits for all of mankind? I find this doubtful. Unless man starts using a commonsense approach to global warming theories, the benefits will be hard to come by. Don’t believe me? Ask the coal workers who have been victimized by a concerted effort to shut down their industry. The current thinking, supported by the previous administration, is that they are right and if it takes loss of work, health or life to accomplish their will, it will be worth it.

I think that if global warming is truly coming (and the ‘experts’ blame everything on it) then it should be embraced. Instead of resisting and trying to stop it, there should be an effort to understand it and profit thereby. But most ‘green’ solutions are aimed at stopping it.

The problem is that global warming is probably not happening on the scale that the tabloids and shock troops of ‘the world is ending’ persuasion claim. But, influenced by a flawed movie and self-serving lies, they press forward demanding changes that would undermine, at the least, world economies. They talk of the weather getting hotter and hotter; they even provide a measure of degrees by which it will grow hotter. But the truth is that it is all built on a theory that is supported by lies or, as supporters say, ‘It may not be the truth, but if it brings about the desired change it is worth it.’

Thinking again of the coal industry, I think they have at least tried to become more ‘green’ friendly with their ‘clean coal.’ That is a practical approach. It isn’t sexy nor does it glitter, but it can protect jobs, reduce prices, and bring a Return On Investment (ROI). That is the kind of thinking we need.

A Look At World That Was

A Look At World That Was

As you know I recently published my newest novel World of Shem. Since this is book 3 of my series World That Was I thought it appropriate to take a look at the series.

World That Was is a series of books covering the Book of Genesis. While each book is strongly based on the Scriptures, I have not only added my imagination but have spent hours upon hours of research regarding such things as geography, foods, clothing, and more. Below is a summary of books both published and planned.

PERISHED

This first book of the series begins with Creation, the Garden of Eden, the Expulsion and the early lives of Adam and Eve. From those early days it continues onward until the day the Flood overtakes the world.

Readers have expressed glowing comments about this novel, such as “the author brings the Bible alive!”

WORLD OF NOAH AND THE ARK

This is the second book of the series. I wrote this because there is so much confusion about the Ark, especially coming from Hollywood. Therefore I not only depicted Noah and his family but I shined the light upon the construction of the Ark itself.

But I didn’t stop there. As an added bonus to my readers I added a Q&A section at the back of the book that is worth the book’s price all by itself. Here I answer some of the misleading claims of people who believe the Ark is nothing but fantasy. These claims include the geography of the old world as well as details regarding the construction of the Ark and its floatability.

WORLD OF SHEM

Book 3 of the series covers the Flood, time on the ocean, landing on Ararat, the sin of Ham, the Tower of Babel, the Confusion of Tongues and beyond. The book continues until Abram (Abraham) is in Haran.

WORLD OF ABRAHAM

Book 4 will cover Abraham’s life from Haran into Canaan and beyond. This novel explores his travels, his love for God, his inconsistencies, his nephew Lot and what happened to him, and more. The reader gets a close up view and understanding of Abraham and Sarah.

WORLD OF JACOB

Book 5 will cover a little of Isaac but will be focused upon Jacob and his adventures. This novel will also begin taking a look at his sons.

WORLD OF JOSEPH

Book 6 will be the story of Joseph. Here the reader will see the byplay of jealousy as it is played out by his brothers. Joseph himself has a few problems that the Bible hints at and must be addressed before he fulfills God’s plan.

As you can see I have a full load ahead for me. But I am looking forward to it. Writing these novels is far more than an exercise in imagination. Much research has already taken place and more will be required. While time consuming and tiring, it is well worth the effort.

Let me leave you with this principle: Research lends credibility to your work. No matter the genre, no matter the length of the novel, and no matter your skill level, research provides the basis for a good, credible story.

Christian Numerology?

Christian Numerology?

The title of today’s blog is Christian Numerology? The question mark is definitive. There is no such thing as Christian Numerology!

Let me explain. While there is Biblical study regarding the meaning of numbers in the Bible, that is not numerology. According to Wikipedia: “numerology is any belief in the divine, mystical relationship between a number and one or more coinciding events.  It is also the study of the numerical value of the letters in words, names and ideas. It is often associated with the paranormal, alongside astrology and similar divinatory arts.” But that is not sufficient. Numerology basically takes outward events, etc. and re-interprets the Bible to fit. Good Bible study starts with the Bible and events, etc. must fit the Biblical narrative. That is exactly opposite of numerology.

The reason for bringing this subject up is the recent news and social media talking about September 23, 2017 as doomsday. Supposedly a ‘professional’ Christian numerologist claims that there will be a constellation revealed over Jerusalem. It is further claimed this is predicted in the Book of Revelation. No such prediction is made. If he is referring to Revelation 12:1-2 that is a historical event speaking of the birth of Christ.

But consider this also:

  1. Christ said no man knows the day or hour of the Rapture.
  2. The Tribulation is a separate event.
  3. The Tribulation begins with the signing of a seven year treaty between the world leader (Anti-Christ) and Israel.

Let’s explore these points further.

In Matthew 34:36 Jesus says, “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” In other words, we cannot know the date or time no matter how smart we are. God’s Son chose not to know and says only the Father knows. That should settle the issue right there.

The second point is that before the ‘End of the World’ there must first be the Rapture, which can occur at any time, then the seven year Tribulation, and then the Millennium (1000 years). So the end of the world is at least 1007 years away!

The third point is that after the Rapture the Anti-Christ will appear on the scene. We don’t know how long a time there is between the Rapture and his signing the treaty. It could be the same day, weeks later, months later, or even years later. We don’t, can’t know. And because we cannot know this, we cannot know when the Tribulation begins.

So this claim is completely bogus. Don’t be fooled. Christ will return for His church and it could be today, Saturday, or some future day. But it will happen. And the question is not when, but will you be part of that church. Membership is based on a personal knowledge of Jesus Christ, that is being saved by His grace and not your works. He died for all of us and wants us to trust Him for our salvation.

And God saw…it was very good

And God saw…it was very good

“And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.” Gen. 1:31

The Book of Genesis is the foundational book of the Bible. It is the only reliable source we have on the creation of the world. God created a world where there was no sin and no death. It was a perfect world.

And within that world He created Adam and Eve. In fact, He created Adam before He created the Garden of Eden (Gen. 2:7-8). Within the Garden He created Eve (Woman) from Adam’s side (Gen. 2:21-23). We have an amazing God who created a perfect world with perfect people.

Then of course there came sin. That was man’s contribution.

Fortunately human science is beginning to catch up to the Bible. While it still stubbornly adheres to evolution, it has made discoveries that not only disprove or weaken their theory but also adds information to the Biblical account which we didn’t know.

You may have heard of the supercontinent Pangaea. But did you know they now believe it was the second and last supercontinent and that it was underwater? That’s right. They now believe it was formed during and under the Flood. Further, it is believed it may have lasted only weeks or months.

So what was before Pangaea? Rodinia! Russian for “mother earth” it is believed to be the original supercontinent. Evolutionists don’t believe that, instead they say there were probably previous supercontinents. But there is no evidence supporting such a theory.

Thus, the Garden of Eden was placed within Rodinia. When Rodinia broke up and became Pangaea it then broke into seven continents. It is easy to understand why human skeletons may be found in Europe, Asia, Africa, America, or some island. Scientists like to complicate things (it makes them seem more important), but even a child would understand this fact. The world likes to say that the Bible says the Garden was in Mesopotamia, and then tear it apart noting inconsistencies.

But when you understand geologic history through the lens of the Bible you can see that the similarities of names of pre-Flood and post-Flood geography are likely the result of Noah and his descendants naming things after the world they had known. By the way, we still do that today. We move to a new area, start a town, city or street and name it after something we left behind. It’s human nature.

In writing Perished I blended the Biblical account with the latest scientific findings. Obviously I used the Biblical account as the primary and science as only supplemental. Why? Because the Bible remains the same (in spite of attempts to alter it) while science is constantly changing. Take evolution for example. Compare today’s version with that of a 100 years ago. Vast changes!

As a foundation book to the Bible Genesis provides both a spiritual and practical bedrock for our understanding of the need for salvation and many other doctrines. In fact, the entire Bible rests upon Genesis. That is why atheistic evolutionists attack Genesis. If they could knock it out, it would disrupt the rest of Scripture. But although they have tried countless times, they have always and will always fail.

Unfortunately we will have to wait until the millennium (1000 year rule of Christ) to ever see the world as it was meant to be. In fact, we really won’t see it in pristine beauty until the New Earth.

The novel Perished has consistently received four and five star reviews. One reason is because it sticks closely to the Biblical account. It’s the story behind the story, or “the rest of the story.” It is available in both print and eBook. And it is available through Amazon, Kindle, Smashwords, and other fine sites. If you enjoy the book I invite you to post your review on the site where you purchased it or at least on Amazon. I’d be thrilled to hear from you at marketing@tr-indbkstore.com.

The World That Was: Using Science

Last issue we looked at the supercontinent Rodinia. In this blog I will discuss science and how I used it.

First of all when discussing science you must decide which of the three viewpoints of science to which you adhere.

  1. True Science
  2. Evolutionary Science
  3. Creation Science

Many of you might say that you adhere to true science. Unfortunately, that is impossible. True science, you see, is not really a viewpoint (yes, I tricked you). True science is the raw scientific data that exists in our knowledge base. It must be interpreted and interpretation rests upon viewpoint or theory.

Evolutionary science is a theory that believes that man evolved over millions and billions of years and interprets true scientific facts accordingly. At one point it held the day but today more and more scientists are questioning its validity.

Creation science is a theory that interprets true scientific facts according to its belief. It believes that a Higher Being, Who we Christians and Jews call God, created the world and man. There was a day that Creation science held the day, but then Evolutionary science came along and people thought it was better and more intelligent. But now the pendulum is swinging back to Creation as an increasing number of scientists are returning to a Creationist viewpoint.

I am a Christian who accepts the Creationist theory as the correct theory. Which brings us to today’s topic. Most writers don’t have to worry about such things, but when writing Biblically based stories it is a must.

Why?

Because the Bible record of events is at odds with evolution. It is true that people often twist the Bible to mean anything they want, which is why it is important to always read “in context.” When you read it that way it removes a lot of silliness.

So how did I use science? Being a Creationist I chose sources that I had complete confidence in having their facts straight. Two of these are Institute for Creation Research (ICR) and Answers in Genesis (AiG). There are others, of course, but those are in my opinion the best.

When writing the story of Creation itself I found these resources to be highly accurate and informative. I was able to draw out the knowledge I needed to undergird my book Perished: The World That Was. Not only for Creation, but also regarding the earth itself (see Rodinia) and the Flood (see Historical Perspective).

Science is a useful tool. Once you know which theory you embrace you can start researching your novel. Now, I will say this: If you embrace evolution you will have a very difficult time writing a Bible based novel or non-fiction book. Evolution simply doesn’t work well with the Bible. And, unfortunately for you, there is no middle ground such as Theistic evolution (a belief that is largely discounted by Evolutionists and Creationists).

So settle that in your mind. That is your starting point.

Actually when writing about Biblical events and people you will find you are using both the historical and the scientific resources at your disposal. I did. My primary was, and is, the Holy Bible. I rely on the King James Version because its history traces all the way back to the beginning (another subject) while other versions have broken histories and are suspect in their accuracy.

The best way that I have found to understand the science of Creation and other Biblical events is to:

1.     Let the Bible first interpret itself.

2.     Then use science to help understand.

Always use the Bible first. If you use science first and then try to fit the Bible within its realm, you will have problems. God gives us wisdom (science) to help understand not contradict His Word.

If you follow that simple rule you will do fine. You have no reason for hesitating at using science. It is a tool that can enrich your writing when done properly.

Will you be criticized? Perhaps. But such criticism will more often come from either non-Christians or Christians who don’t really believe that the Bible is inspired. (How can you know you are saved if you don’t believe the Bible is the Inspired Word of God? How do you know that Jesus really said you must be born again?)

Now be forewarned. When researching science there is a lot of information available. And it can get boring. So you will have to dig deep and persevere. You will learn more than you will ever need to put in your story, but you may need it to understand how best to use the information.

Remember this truism: Scientific and Historical data need to be accurate in your story, but they should not be the primary thing.

If you write science fiction novels the science will play a much bigger role. But in writing Bible based novels, the Biblical story is paramount.

What if you are writing a novel not based on the Bible? You still want your science and historical data to be accurate. All sorts of people will read your novel. Some of these may have a deep understanding of science, or of a particular historical era. You make a mistake and they will see it.

So how did I use science in regards to the Ark? First it required a lot of research. For Perished I used the latest scientific knowledge then available. Currently I am writing a Special Edition book about the Ark. There is much more information available. Back when writing Perished there were theories abounding about the Flood and the Ark, but now there has been more scientific discoveries both about the worldwide Flood and the possible construction of the Ark.

I have investigated these new facts and have used them where appropriate. As stated above, I learn more than I ever use. But that gives us another principle: New discoveries are always being made, so you need to keep in touch with the facts even after you have published your book.

Why?

Because you may some day write another book that would need the same facts or you may rewrite the book you just published. Your readers will be current so you should be also.
