Ron’s Tip of the Day Panic

Welcome to Ron’s Tip of the Day. Throughout the week I will share a tip with you. Today I am looking at Panic.

How Do You Handle Panic?

Panic is a real emotion whether based real or imagined events. Look at the pandemic. There is a surge of the virus among younger healthier people while at the same time the death rate is plummeting. What do people focus on? The rise in cases. But they should be focused on the death rate which fell from almost 6% to under 5%.

This same illogical reaction occurs in writers. It can be about their published book, lack of sales, royalties, and more. Then you have the as of yet unpublished book. It can be excessive worry over the story itself transforming itself into writer’s bloc.

Panic is an Emotion

We all feel it at one time or another. I have. Sometimes over my Christian walk and sometimes over my books. But are going to let an emotion control our lives?

What’s the Solution?

Different people may have different solutions, but I believe in facing it head-on. What is the cause of the panic? What are the results of my panicking? And often, what does the Bible say about panic?

God spoke to Abram about that very thing, ‘Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward’, (Gen. 15:1).  As a Christian, we need to trust God. His way is ultimately the best way.

Tip of the Day: Identify the cause of panic and its results, then you address the concern. It might not be as big as you first imagined. And if you haven’t asked God about it, do so now.

Ron’s Tip of the Day Commitment

Welcome to Ron’s Tip of the Day. Throughout the week I will share a tip with you. Today I am looking at Commitment.

What commitment?

Commitment means you are in it for the long haul even if there are obstacles. Commitment to what is the question. I write a blog, am I committed to it? I write books am I committed to it?

Question: What does it take to stop you?

The answer to that question reveals how committed you are, and it tells you what you need to do to be more committed.

Instead of measuring yourself by sales and royalties do this:

Measure yourself by these simple questions: Do I still enjoy writing? Am I working to improve my writing? Am I a fan of my own books? Am I willing to put in long hours writing?

Do You Enjoy Writing?

A very simple question. Only you know the answer, but it is no then you need recharged or another avocation.

Are You Trying to Improve Your Writing?

Are you reading other authors to pick up ideas?

Do You Put in the Time?

Do you have a tight schedule or are you going beyond scheduled time at least some of the time?

Tip of the Day: Re-evaluate yourself periodically.

Ron’s Tip of the Day Renewal

Welcome to Ron’s Tip of the Day. Today I am looking at Renewal.

How have you been spending Stay-at-home?

Teresa and I have continued with her rehab, we have sought to maintain a sense of normalcy, and we have been engaged in renewal.

What Does That Mean?

As a writer I interpret Renewal to mean: An effort to review and improve on my writings. This can be as simple as writing a new book, or a more complicated review of both our writings and the marketing of our books.

Previously I have noted my return to local marketing. I believe in a balanced approach featuring local marketing and a national marketing. But the main emphasis is local. This is the place I can have the most impact.

Nationally I can purchase plans that will market our books for us, but locally I have a more hands-on approach. For example, getting our books into the local bookstore market. Instead of hoping someone will see one of our books and suddenly become a viral spokesperson, I think it makes more sense to personally and actively push our books. This means doing the hard work of finding bookstores, developing a business plan, and enacting a marketing plan.

To do this, I need to be working toward these things now (I am) so that when bookstores reopen, I’ll be ready. Our careers deserve our best efforts, our best writing, and our best marketing.

Ron’s Tip of the Day Overcoming Obstacles

Welcome to Ron’s Tip of the Day. Throughout the week I will share a tip with you. This is an experiment in microblogging. Let me know how I’m doing. Today I am looking at Overcoming Obstacles.

Last week I wrote about the Unexpected with the tip being ‘Don’t let the unexpected upset your day’. I am revisiting that principle.

As you may remember my wife has had cancer. She’s had it twice and beat it both times! The radiation, chemotherapy, and, yes, surgery was rough on her. But we got through it because we turned to God and dumped it in His lap. He, by the way, was only too happy to take  it over.

Strengthened by her faith in Him and still having the dream to write, she continued on. It wasn’t easy. There were times when things felt and looked bad, but she persevered!

And now she has defeated cancer a second time, published her first book, and is eagerly working on her next book. Prayers were answered, plus her dream became a reality! Praise God!

Will she get cancer again?

According to her doctor, yes. But it could be 3 months, six months, a year, or more before it strikes. And that gives her time to get healthier and stronger to celebrate life and serve God.

If she can do that, why not you? If you know God, you have a Resource greater than anything else! If you don’t know Him, then I invite you to go to I Believe.
