Welcome to Ron’s Tip of the Day. Throughout the week I will share a tip with you. Today I am looking at Page Setup.
Below is based on my book TR Independent Books Guide to Writing for 9 x 6:
- Do setup before writing
- Remember the number of pages impact headers, footers, and margins
- You can change setup at any time prior to publishing.
- Margins need attention: number of pages dictate how wide or narrow margins should be. You can adjust later, but remember margins affect every page.
- Recommend start for 9×6 margins of Top: .76”, Bottom: .76”, Left .63” Right: blank, Gutter: none (same as Left)
- Title of book goes in header on odd pages
- Author’s name goes in header on even pages
A good practice is to always preview your book before publishing. You don’t want the gutter too big that it becomes part of the front or back covers. Nor do you want it too small causing the front and back covers to overlap the gutter.
Tip of the Day: Pay attention to your page setup.
